‘World’s Best’ Target for Fire Service

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) has published a new three-year plan which sets out its priorities for the future.

‘The Plan’ outlines how the Fire Service will continue to build on the work it has done with partners in order to target its work at those at most risk in the community. It also shows how the organisation plans to make the best of resources to deliver a value for money service.

Chief Fire Officer at WMFS, Vij Randeniya OBE, said: “Our new strategic plan sets out what WMFS sees as its priorities over the next three years. We face a number of challenges, and we cannot succeed by working in isolation – WMFS has to work with its partners to help us succeed.

“Our role is one that is changing beyond recognition. A modern fire service is about much more than just fighting fires. ‘We continue to add to the significant prevention work carried out by many sections of the service.  It’s by working to prevent things from happening that we’ll make the West Midlands a safer place to live and work.”

The plan focuses on six distinct areas:

•    Safety in the home
•    Vulnerable people
•    Health and wellbeing
•    Arson and anti-social behaviour
•    Road safety
•    Prosperity and the environment

“We know that we are doing lots of good work,” Vij added, “But we want to do more, and do it even better. We want to be recognised as the world’s best fire service.”
