Fire Fighters Charity seeks sponsor to support actress’s charity trek

In May 2010, Manchester actress Suranne Jones will be trekking the Great Wall of China to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, and to help her with this mission, she is looking for a corporate sponsor to back her, enabling her to generate awareness of the Charity and the sponsor, as well as raise much needed funds!

Suranne first heard about the Charity when she read about the injuries that a Bolton fire fighter suffered back in summer 2008. The fire fighter received 50 per cent burns after being engulfed in a fire ball whilst attempting to rescue a family who was caught up in a house fire.

To show her support, Suranne then went on to attend a public open day at Bolton Fire Station around the time of the incident. Since then, she has carried on actively supporting the cause and even won £25,000 for the Charity by taking part in the celebrity edition of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire which was aired on ITV last Christmas.

She will now be trekking The Great Wall of China to raise even more well needed funds for The Charity that looks after injured fire fighters and burns survivors and is looking for a corporate sponsor to contribute.

Suranne will be walking 80km over 10 days and will be raising the profile of the Charity throughout the journey, with regular reports back home, video, updates and press coverage!

Suranne said: “When I met the family of the injured fire fighter last year and heard about his story I was completely overwhelmed. I instantly wanted to support him and those that suffer by this brave profession.  I asked the Charity to throw me a challenge and they suggested walking the Great Wall of China, so I took up the gauntlet. We just need people to dig deep now and support the cause now!”

I am looking forward to the challenge, but at the same time, it is quite daunting.  It will be tough, but nothing like what a fire fighter recovering from burns has to go through.  What I am doing is a small thing compared to all the big things in life that fire fighters are often subjected to.”

Suranne is looking for a corporate sponsor to contribute to the Charity trek. If you can help, please contact Alison White on 01256 366 566 or email awhite@firefighterscharity.org.uk.  For all other donations, go to www.justgiving.com/surannejones

The Fire Fighters Charity exists for fire fighters during their times of need and burns survivors, and assists over 17,000 individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.  It has three UK centres, which offer varying combinations of therapy and recuperation services.  With no government funding, the Charity is completely reliant upon donations from the general public and fire community.
